WHY WE ARE CHANGING
For years, checkyourfood.com has operated as an independent platform, helping over 7,500 members and thousands of daily visitors accurately track their nutritient intake, and learn about the benefits of micro and macro nutrients to take control of their health.
To protect Check Your Food forever and open up the Free For Life account to full unlimited functionality for all, we are legally converting the company into an official UK Community Interest Company (CIC). This means our core tools will belong to public health, not corporate profit.
What is a Community Interest Company (CIC)?
A CIC is a specialised type of UK company designed specifically for social enterprises. It is regulated by the UK Government’s CIC Regulator to ensure that everything the company does is for the public good.
The 3 Golden Rules of the CIC
1. Public Health Mission Locked into Company Law
2. The Asset Lock: Platform Can Never Be Privately Sold
3. 65% + of Any Future Surplus Reinvested into the platform
Why we are making this move now
• To Protect Your Free Accounts and open them up to full functionality: We want to guarantee that Check Your Food remains free for life for all, unaffected by commercial pressures.
• To Prevent Corporate Exploitation: By converting to a CIC, we ensure our extensive food database and your user data can never be bought or exploited by 'for profit' corporations.
• To Partner for Good: This status unlocks opportunities for Check Your Food to collaborate with ethical health initiatives, public health bodies, and non-profit organisations.
The legislation and how you can help
Our Legal Accountability (The Asset Lock)
To prove our commitment to this mission, our new governing Articles of Association contain a strict, legally binding Asset Lock.
If CheckYourFood CIC is ever dissolved in the future, its most valuable assets - including the website domain, underlying source code, and nutritional databases—cannot be liquidated for private cash. Instead, they will be transferred for £0 value to a nominated non-profit partner, approved by the Regulator of Community Interest Companies at the time of transfer.
Our Directors receive zero remuneration from this arrangement, ensuring 100% of our value remains locked for public benefit.
How You Can Support the Transition
Because we have a very low current revenue and cannot turn to corporate profit making investors, we are turning to you, our visitors, to help fund this transition.
We need to raise £12,800 to cover our launch phase:
• UK Government Filing & Conversion Fees: £100
• Data Compliance & Security Updates: £500
• Updating the Checkyourfood.com code: £5,000
• Removing advertising from checkyourfood.com for 2 years: £4,800
• Server Hosting (Next 24 Months): £2,400
