Here at Check Your Food, we’re slightly obsessed about checking what’s in our food but like any busy people we often grab something quick to eat for lunch on the go or while checking out what’s going on social media!
In these days of smartphones, tablets and social networking on our lunch break, do we get enough time to enjoy a quick, simple, highly nutritious and low cost lunch?
The term lunch is first recorded as being used in 1580 and has been in common use in the English language since 1823. Up until the early 19th century, luncheon was generally just for the ladies while their husbands were out at work, hence the term "ladies who lunch".
Originally the term luncheon meant a snack eaten between more substantial meals or a piece of cheese and bread.
Well sticking the original meaning of a ‘piece of cheese and bread’ just how quick and nutritious can this light meal be? We decided to check it out…
Cheese and bread
Ingredients: 60g mature cheddar cheese 30g sliced red onion 2 slices of wholemeal bread 20g organic spreadable butter
Method 1) Take 2 slices of bread and butter them. 2) Slice the cheddar and add to the buttered bread. 3) Add the sliced onions and place the unloaded slice over the other thus creating a sandwich : )
Preparation time - 2 minutes
Ease of eating AND enjoying social media – HIGH
Using mature cheddar cheese, wholemeal bread, organic spreadable butter and red onions makes for an incredibly nutritious lunch
