Did you start the year with a detox or not drinking? Well if you did and its time to retox, we’ve got the low down on which drinks have the most nutrients to get you off to the right start.

It's good to be a bit more informed in your choices 😃

So, lets just check out how good they are for you.

Oh yes, some of your favourite drinks have some fairly impressive nutritional benefits.

Now, you all know the stuff about drinking responsibly, so I won’t go on about that. Let's just dive in...

Starting with:

Beer 



Beer supports your immune system, DNA and liver

It's one of the oldest drinks in the world with the earliest evidence of it going back to 3500 – 3100BC in Iran! 

Highest nutrient - Vitamin B6 - 25% of your recommended daily amount (RDA) 
For your immune system, contributes to oxygen circulation and to keep you feeling happy


Cider



A great drink for your blood vessels, brain, cells and nervous system

When Romans invaded England around 55 BC, they found that cider was already being enjoyed by the locals here!

Highest nutrient - Iron - 22% of your RDA
Transports oxygen from your lungs to your body and is vital for your growth, mental skills, healing and your immune system!

Cream liqueur (Bailey’s style)


Support for your heart and skin

A cream liqueur is a liqueur that includes dairy cream and a flavourful liquor among its ingredients.

Highest nutrient - Vitamin A - 13% of your RDA
Regulates the growth of virtually all your cells, protects your sight, is vital for your immune system & is a first defence against infection

This sounds great - Dooley's, cream liqueur, which uses toffee and vodka

Guinness – Stout



A great drink for your cells, mood, heart, DNA and energy creation

The first known use of the word stout for beer was in a document dated 1677 found in the Egerton Manuscript, the sense being that a stout beer was a strong beer not a dark beer.

Highest nutrient - Copper - 33% of your RDA
For your antioxidant activity (cleansing/repairing), cellular energy and immune system

Lager is fermented cool—45–50 degrees F (7–10 degrees C) and conditioned close to freezing, so the yeast spews far less of its flavoursome by-products into it, giving you a much milder flavour than bitter.

Keeps your cells talking to each other, is vital for your energy production and may protect you from cancer


Red Wine



Fantastic for flavonoids and resveratrol. Research has also shown red wine to increase good gut bacteria levels

May inhibit the development of cancer, be an effective antioxidant and delay the development of heart disease

Rosé wine



Good for your immune system and cellular energy plus is a good source of flavonoids

When the first wine labelled as a rosé was produced is not known, but it is very likely that many of the earliest red wines made were closer in appearance to today's rosés than they would be to modern red wines.

White wine



Much lighter on phytochemicals than its red cousin but still good for iron and manganese

White wine is a wine that is fermented using the pulp and not the skin. White wine has existed for at least 2500 years!

Spirits



There is very little data for spirits and what there is shows us that spirits have very few nutrients. So mix them with nutrient rich mixers such as cranberry juice and orange juice etc.

Bloody Mary



A great hangover cure that will also afford you protection from cancer and keep your immune system healthy

Highest nutrient - Vitamin C- 32% of your RDA
May provide you with protection from prostate and lung cancer

So there you have it

We’re not encouraging you to rush out and start drinking, rather bear in mind that some drinks are better than others. If you’re going to drink spirits, choose fruit juices as your mixer instead of sugar laden fizzy drinks. 

Remember drink responsibly; know what nutrition is in your drink!
